BBQ Members Score ECMA Nominations
The East Coast Music Association just threw a little love to several members of the Bedford Brass Quintet. Nominations for the 2017 ECMA Awards were announced today, and BBQ members Simon Oakey (trombone) and Paul St-Amand (trumpet) are featured on two of the honoured albums.
Simon performs with Scott n’ the Rocks on Live at Stayner’s Wharf, nominated for jazz recording of the year. The set was recorded last year at Stayner’s Wharf Pub & Grill on the Halifax waterfront. Performing original tunes by guitarist and band leader Scott Macmillan, the 12-piece ensemble is a mainstay at Stayner’s. They appear every other Monday through the fall and winter months. Paul plays on Unidentified Funk Object’s Space Funk Party, nominated for R&B/soul recording of the year. UFO is a 9-piece band with an old-school funk sound, exploring cosmic and science fiction themes. Paul’s trumpet or flugelhorn appear on six tracks of Space Funk Party, and he contributed the horn arrangement for the lead track Shag Harbour.
